The Rogosin Institute
is an Upper East Side and not-for-profit medical research and health care organization, affiliated with NY-Presbyterian Hospital, and Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Our Software Development team is committed to empowering scientists with cutting edge software and data management solutions to accelerate and facilitate bio-medical research and discovery. The member of this group will have a chance to participate in groundbreaking medical research activities and have direct impact on patient care, working hands-on with clinicians and scientists.
The Senior Software Developer/Architect will be expected to:
•Build and deploy enterprise level secure software solutions with scientists who have high expectations for quality, turnaround, performance and reliability.
•Lead software development process through the entire system life-cycle, which includes:
o gathering business requirements
o formulating technical specifications
o system design
o database/application design, development, optimization and implementation
o data quality assurance, software testing, integration, documentation.
• Maintain and enhance existing Intranet based software, consisting of clinical research management systems, gene data warehouse, document repository, staff directory, and various research application tools.
•Fine-tune existing and newly developed applications using code optimization and database tuning techniques
•Interact with The Rogosin Institute researches, physicians, and administrative staff at all levels on their software and data analysis needs.
Requirements
•Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 5 years of data-driven web application development experience (or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience).
•Experience building and managing enterprise level software solutions at all phases of system life cycle.
•Deep understanding and implementation experience of the relational database concepts, web application architecture and object oriented programming.
•In-depth knowledge of SQL, experience with complex queries, and query optimization techniques
•Experience in bio-medical and research fields, knowledge of data analysis, statistics and statistical software packages are a huge plus.
•Interest in intersection between the life sciences and computer science.
•Willingness and ability to use variety of tools in very heterogeneous environment to achieve science and business goals.
•Strong analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills + very good learning abilities
•Hands-on experience with the most recent releases of the following programming languages and software (in the order of importance):
o ColdFusion or JSP, or PHP
o Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL
o HTML, JavaScript, CSS
o Java, J2EE
Desirable experience:
•XML, mySQL, Perl, MS Excel/Access, Unix/Linux, Statistical Software (SPSS, JMP, SigmaStat, R/S+, SAS).
